Did you sign my yearbook?

Randomly, I picked up my high school senior yearbook tonight and started rifling through the pages. Flipping past photos of Homecoming, senior superlatives, and pep rallies it wasn’t the images that caught my attention and had me sitting on my bed for the next 30 minutes, mesmerized.  It was reading all of the comments.  Sure I had to get past the “Have a great summers” and “K.I.T. Call me”– but there were some true gems written in the back of my yearbook that really took me back.
There were a handful of names I didn’t even remember that I had to use the index to match name to face, but those were merely superficial remarks.  Continue reading

Muddy Me Up

I got an email a few months ago from my high school bestie, Katrina, with a wildly random request to join her in as a contestant in the Irvine Mud Run.  As to be expected, I agreed zestfully without fully knowing what a mud run entailed.  For those of you unaware, the Irvine Mud Run is a race just over a 5k that has mud pits and other obstacles dispersed throughout the course.  The proceeds from the registration fees go towards a charitable cause. let it always be known that i was who i am

A dear friend opened my ears to the serenading dreams of Laura Marling.

My life at this moment is captured by this song.

oh naive little me
asking what things you have seen
you’re vulnerable in your head
you’ll scream and you’ll wail till you’re dead

creatures veiled by night
following things that aren’t right
and they’re tired and they need to be lead
you’ll scream and you’ll wail till you’re dead

but give me to a rambling man
let it always be known that i was who i am

beaten, battered, and cold
my children will live just to grow old
but if i sit here and weep
i’ll be blown over by the slightest of breeze

and the weak need to be lead
and the tender i’ll carry to their bed
and its a pale and cold affair

i’ll be damned if i’ll be found there

but give me to a rambling man
let it always be known that i was who i am

its funny how the first chords that you come to
are the minor notes that come to serenade you
it’s hard to accept yourself as someone
you don’t desire
as someone you don’t want to be

oh give me to a rambling man
let it always be known that i was who i am
oh give me to a rambling man
let it always be known that i was who i am

friendly affairs

I spent this weekend reveling in the presence of friends that only come once every blue moon.  It was glorious.

Amber now lives in Phoenix so I jump at every chance to spend time with her on the rare occasion that she is here in California. This trip we marathoned Harry Potter in preparation for HP 7.2, I epically failed at making my first set of jello shots.  Who said you can’t put too much vodka?  Naturally, we turned the maranthon into a jello shot game and had to shoot the nasty buggers down every time someone said “Voldemort”.  That’s right.  That’s how us nerds party. Cinema Challenge

It’s my day off and I just watched “The Graduate” for the first time.

It made me think about how I’ve never seen some of the most renowned films of all time.  So… I’m challenging myself to watch and experience all AFI’s 100 Films of All time.

The list and what I’ve accomplished so far…

I’ve seen a lot of these movies, however, some of them I saw at such a young age that I couldn’t fully comprehend the plot.  So– I plan on re-watching them (i.e. Ben Hur, Godfather, Schindler’s List, etc).
